    Chemicals and Sprayers

Out here, the right chemicals and the right sprayer can make many chores easier as well as make your property more appealing. But there is no "one size fits all" product for either chemicals or sprayers. As a matter of fact, the wrong products just might result in the opposite of what you expect, as well as create environmental and safety issues. So, here's some helpful advice to get you started right.

    Read the label

In this case, what you don't know can hurt you — or the environment. Every chemical container or package will tell you, among other things, what it's for, provide proper mixing formulas and warnings, and often offer specific mixing instructions for specific tank sprayers.

Even though "Read and follow all label directions" seems to be on just about everything these days, don't take it for granted when using chemicals.

    The problem/solution quandary

Weeds or unwanted grasses in your lawn? There's a chemical for that. Clearing a patch of new ground for a flower or vegetable garden? Yep, there's another chemical for that. Woody vines, heavy brush, stumps? There are specific chemicals for all those, too. Refer to the chart included in this brochure. It will provide a basic guide to brands and formulations you'll find at Tractor Supply including our recommended products for specific needs.

    There's a sprayer for that

When you want to control vegetation under fences or for spot weed treatment, a hand-held pump lawn sprayer or backpack sprayer with wand might be right. On the other hand, if you need to control weeds on larger acreage tracts, a high-capacity trailer sprayer, or ATV sprayer with boom applicator that extends horizontally to cover more surface area may be the right choice. We offer a number of other sprayer options to suit the job. Tractor Supply also has a Know-How Central brochure, "Don't Guess… Calibrate Your Sprayer," that offers instructions and a worksheet to help you determine the right amount of product for your application.

    Other tools you may need

    • Dyes to help see where you've sprayed
    • Additives to make the solution more effective by sticking to the vegetation
    • De-foamers to prevent chemical overflow when mixing, as well as for better visual accuracy when mixing
    • Tank cleaners and decontaminants
    • Goggles, rubber gloves, and masks for your safety

    Chemical and Sprayer Know How

Use of chemicals can have serious consequences if used improperly so, always read and follow label directions on the chemicals you'll find at your local Tractor Supply store or online at TractorSupply.com. One of our team members can also help guide you to the right chemicals and sprayers for the right application.
