Alternative tool box
Date:May 1, 2012
I bought this for a F150 to have a quickly removable, but secure tool box. I have used rail mounted tool boxes, game boxes, bins, tonneau covers and the best scenario yet is the bin under a tonneau at the rear of a truck.....so this is why I chose this. I don't have a tonneau on this truck and I wanted an easier to remove storage than a fabricated bin. I plan to mount 2 12" stainless grab bars (like in bathrooms) at each end for lifting this out. Modify a couple of stainless eye bolts by cutting off the eye until its more like a hook and drilling a couple of holes using large wing nuts to keep it centered and secure at the rear and mount to the existing holes at the rear of the bed using the existing holes in the truck, I will have to drill 2 holes in this box to match location on truck. The F150 has a locking tailgate so I will have double the security. The aluminum tool boxes are junk and easy to break into no matter who makes them. This is much more secure and the stainless eye bolt with 1/2" shank will be tough one to defeat. I'm doing this for many reasons, but access is much easier for tools and it keeps my truck free to load without much hassle to remove via the wing nuts and slight modification to the box.
