Feed along with at least 1.0 to 1-1/2% of the horse's body weight in good quality hay or pasture (10 to 15 lb. hay for a 1000 lb. horse). The feeding quantities of both hay and concentrate should be adjusted according to the activity/production level of the horse and the desired body condition. Feeding rates may vary with age, size, temperament, health status, climate, forage quality, lactation quantity and activity level. Do not offer the concentrate free-choice. Changes in feed or feeding rate should be made gradually to allow the digestive system to adjust. Animals on low feeding rates should be offered a good quality mineral supplement.
Always provide adequate forage and clean, fresh water!
