Another not so great purchase for me.
Date:March 7, 2012
This is a neat looking blaster, and again I was fooled by the pretty red color and good looks. The concept sounds good: pressure above helps the media move. In practice, this thing has been nothing but trouble for me. If the handles are not operated in precisely the correct sequence, the hose loads up with media. Which means FIRST you have to get the air moving(top handle) THEN you get the media flowing- and that handle is under the thing, and so you have to get down on the ground and open it, WHILE ALSO squeezing the deadman valve on the handle. All this is done after the bottle has pressurized. Then the media goes out, and you can start to blast. For about 30 seconds, till the pressure in the bottle drops, and most of the pressure from the line now goes to refilling the bottle, rather than blowing through the line. SO the line clogs with media, as gravity does its thing. I have nearly thrown this thing across the yard it has frustrated me so! I am planning to reconfigure it to a non-pressurized canister design. Probably, a check valve between the air inlet to the hose and the one for the canister would help alleviate the pressurization problem, but I am not sure. I am sure I would not buy another one. I bought it mainly to clean a frame of a truck I am restoring: I ended up doing so by hand, while the blaster just sat in the way annoying me. It does come with a hood, BTW: but the media gets in it anyway. Wear the hood & goggles & a respirator for best protection. Good thing the media is cheap, as it goes everywhere. I used ground cloths to help save most of it, but haven't built a good filter system to remove debris from the reclaimed stuff yet.
Buy this one if you have the time to correct the defects. Otherwise, it seems a tube into bucket type would give just as good performance.

Good purchase
Date:October 14, 2011
Bought this unit and have used it for about 10 hours. I like it with just a couple suggestions: Do not attempt to blast when the humidity is high...80+%, OR if your air compressor is not equipped with an air dryer. The media feed hose will plug up. The clamp holding the media feed hose is not sufficient to keep the hose from blowing off. Simply replace it with a better clamp. All in all....good equipment and the store folks were great!

NICE TOOL FOR THE HOBYIST
Date:October 29, 2010
If you do not know much about sandblasting like me. You will soon find out its all about CFM. By description this unit will work for the hobbyists that owns a relatively small 5.5 H.P compressor. The rule of thumb is 4 CFM.’s per H.P. Therefore the Media Has to be very Fine Like Sand to Flow Properly!
Buffalo tool recommends 80- grit Garnet or Glass media for that reasson. I went with the 80-grit Garnet and it works Great! At 35 cents per pound sandblasting can get expensive. However Garnet can be reused up to three times. Initially tried save money by going with Fine Black Beauty media @ 17 cents per pound. Later found out that “Fine” is 60/40- grit and clogged up at the valve. Considering Black Beauty can only be used once Garnet is the best bet as stated. Sand 80- grit surely will work, however on the side of the product it states in bold print Do Not Use Silica Sand for Health Reasons!!
Bottom line this product works great for small projects like spot cleaning frames, etc. No need to spend big bucks for a large compressor unless you are going to the next level.
