great electric splitter
Date:January 9, 2012
if you want a great splitter for the price dont underestimate this baby. i was in total awe as to the power and speed this splitter had. way beyond my furthest expectations !!! i split some huge oaks, and maple freshly cut and had about 6 cord split in 2 hours. (kids helping) why waste mony on a expensive gas one ?? this baby will do it for you.

Excellent splitter, Excellent price

The good: -Not too heavy so can be moved fairly easily. -Splits very well; I split a lot of oak and was worried about some pieces, especially where large branches (six inch +) meet the main trunk but with proper alignment of the log, works quite well. -Does NOT require two hands on the splitter to work. Others do and this can slow the process down significantly. The splitter moves slowly enough so i don't consider one hand operation to be a safety concern. - Generally well constructed - Works right out of the box, hydraulic fluid is topped off. -standing on end, takes up as much space as an upright vacuum cleaner. Try that with a gas splitter!
The "bad": - Standing on end, the unit rests on the rubber handle of the splitter actuation lever. Better to have a separate bracket.
- By luck, I read the small label on the end that instructed me to open the air bleeder wing nut on the end before operation or you could over-pressure the seals. I know, RTFM but seems to me that if it is that important they would put a visible tag on the actuation lever or power switch for first time users. (save a few warranty repairs?)
- Tires seem a bit cheap, although not yet a problem, I wonder about a few years and log bumps down the road.
Summary: Nothing against the splitter but I will build or buy a stand, being low to the ground, it is a back killer for an old timer like me.
This slick little unit splits hardwood rapidly and well for a great price which is all you can ask. Tractor Supply also has reasonable prices as well.

Great Product!

After several years of spltting large pieces of wood by hand, I decided it was time to try a spltter. Boy, I should have bought this a long time ago. It is well constructed and easy to operate. It split everything I threw into it except larger knotted pieces. I would recommend this for breaking down pieces that were already partially split, and pieces that are too large to use for a wood stove. I've only used it two times so far, but I'm very satisfied.

I have a Homesteeder wood stove in my garage & not being able to split logs by hand any more I decided it was time to find a affordable log splitter, It' not a big boy & I did not expect it to be up there with them, In the first place I dont by firewood I get it from friends that have broke limbs on there trees & I also go out looking for ditchwood along country roads, I stay away from bodark though even with my saw, For me it fits my needs & for safty sake 5 ton is enough because the more pressure applied then the more likley chances if the log splits & flys off witch can happen the more force it will have, No regrets buying it so far & I bought the 3 year service plan as well, I have a little role around stool & set right beside it & let it do the work.
