Single Shot Sprayer
Date:July 18, 2011
This sprayer works well as far as the spraying - either a mist close up or a stream for farther distances. I have not used it as a back pack and just removed the straps. I just did not want to walk around get started with over 25 lbs of water on my back.
The clamp which holds the hose onto the bottom of the tank does not prevent the hose from leaking. The hose does have some type of adhesive to hold it to the spout but it still leaks a small amount.
There is a valve on the want to prevent the wand from siphoning if you are not spraying and the wand is at the same level or below the tank. The lever on mine fell off somewhere in the brush so now I use a pair of pliers to turn the valve.
I've alread used it enough in the last 6 weeks or so that the main gasket/Oring which prevents liquid from squirting out the trombone slide is wearing out. I have yet to find any replacement parts for this sprayer.
I have used trombone sprayers in the past and all of them have one drawback. After just a little while there is much friction between the Orings and slide.
I have yet to find a satisfactory lubricant to use which will work in water and not become gummy and mess up the works.
I've tried plumber's silicone grease, crisco shortening, vegetable oil and other lubricants. From what I have read a petroleum based product is not supposed to be used as it will eat up the O rings.
