Beware of Misleading Electrical Ratings
Date:December 31, 2011
This generator caught my eye with its 7,000 watt rating and diesel power. Looking a little closer I noticed an electrical rating label attached to the case that stated the max rating is 5,000 watts and the continuous rating is only 4,600 watts.
TSC online description states the following: •Rated frequency: 60 Hz rated output 4.6 kw •Rated voltage: 120/240V max output 5.0 kw •Rated current: 19.2 AMP power factor 1.0
The owner’s manual states this generator rating is 7,000 watts max and a continuous rating of 6,300 watts, but then states the generator current is only 19.2 Amps. 19.2 Amps is equal to approximately 4600 watts.
Something is very fishy on how this generator portrayed to the consumer. How is this being sold as a 7,000 watt generator when the max or surge rating is only 5,000 watts?
