Quick fix
Date:February 4, 2010
We picked up a roll of metal fencing and some of these spikes to put up a safe area for our son who's three and autistic. We needed something that was going to be strong enough to withstand him pushing on it every once in awhile, but not something that was permanent or that would hurt the grass as we are renting. These spikes have notches that hold unto the fencing at different heights adding to the stability of the fence. Once attached to the fence, you choose what shaped area you'd like and merely step down on a foot peg to drive it into the ground. The spikes were easy to install (although every once in awhile we'd find a large stone hiding underneath the surface and had to move over a couple inches and try again.) They are sturdy and convenient. When the time came to move the fence to make room for a new playground, I had the fence pulled up with five minutes and you couldn't even tell it was ever there. Great for temporary and/or quick fixes. The only flaw is that some of the spikes are bent/crooked when they arrive at the store so you have to be careful to pick out the best of the best just as you would pick out lumber for a project. Also, the spikes are made of plastic. They are pretty durable and safe, but can break it pulled or bent too hard.
