Description

Horses have a language and a logic all their own, but humans can learn to understand what they are saying. Using a question-and-answer format and drawing on real-life case studies, equine behavior expert Jessica Jahiel, Ph.D. explains how a horse thinks and learns, why it acts the way it does, and how you should respond. You'll find answers to common horse behavior problems such as how to handle a frightened or untrained horse, how to help a horse overcome its fear of the vet, what to do with a horse that kicks or rears, and how to help older horses kick bad habits.

This book adresses a wide variety of problems most people encounter when working around horses. Trailering issues, head-shy horses, even problems under saddle are explained from a trainers perspective and what the horse is thinking. There are even simple questions like "Am I spoiling my horse with treats?" It also helps with potentially dangerous horse behaviors such as rearing or bucking under saddle. It was great having this book to use as a guide to getting inside my horses' head and have a better understanding of why she acted the way she did and what I was doing wrong and how to correct it.
The number one thing I appreciated was the author wrote it like you have some knowledge about horses. She gave you pointers on things you yourself could solve and let you know when it was time to call in a proffesional trainer or veteranairian if the problem might be medical. Its a good book for someone buying their first horse or anyone who wants to learn more about why horses act the way they do.
