Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent option for low-cost & low-hassle worming Helpful Pill-giving Hint for Cat Owners: For cats requiring 1 pill, halve the pill (usually a small cat = smaller throat hole). Use a human brand canned squeeze-cheese to cover one half of the pill in a thin layer. 2-Give cat a very small taste of squeeze-cheese with NO PILL. 3-After a few seconds, open cat's mouth by gently pressing corners of mouth around teeth, and use your finger to stick the cheesy pill as far back on the tongue as you can (I aim for the spot where my cat has her tongue shoved to the top-back of her mouth, almost her throat). 4-Cat will quickly close mouth and work tongue & jaws trying to either swallow it or spit it out--as soon as pill is in, cup one hand under cat's chin/around bottom jaw and rub while holding cat's head slightly upright to encourage the cat to swallow the pill. Other hand is on the back of the neck, to help direct the cat's head area. 5-After a few seconds of pill-free petting and another taste of cheese to reassure the cat that you aren't killing it, repeat steps 1-4 with the second half of the pill. Works the same on larger cats needing 2 full pills, just don't cut them in half. Even difficult cats will usually give you 2 passes on this cheese-pill method if they trust you, but the 3rd and 4th attempts will most likely be rejected. I use a small-size deep basket and a postal scale to weigh our cats. I recommend weighing just so you can be sure you're giving the correct dosage. Product Review: This pill works well for ridding your cat of tapeworms, they're the type of worms that release segments that resemble rice or sesame seed around the cat's bottom...cat owners know what I'm talking about. Most over-the-counter liquid wormers are for another type of worm, roundworm, and don't work on tapeworm. Cats get tapeworms from fleas, which carry the worm larvae inside them. Cat eats the flea while grooming, the worm larvae gets into cat's digestive tract, and begins to grow & feed on the cat's digested nutrients. Gross, gross, and g-r-o-s-s. The last time I wormed, I had to take all 4 cats up to the vet for weighing and "diagnosis" of something that I've been to the vet enough times before to diagnose myself. Paid a little less for the pills, BUT the hassle of carting 4 wailing & hissing furbabies just isn't worth the savings. I was so happy to find this option for home-worming without the trip to the vet. If your cat has or gets fleas, tapeworms are almost unavoidable. The best way to prevent tapeworm is to prevent fleas. That said, even well-protected animals sometimes become infested--cats can get tapeworms from eating rodents which have fleas, too! At the first sign of worms, I always flea-treat the cats (I use F.L.+ and it works great), and worm the entire household.
