Rated 5 out of 5 by from looks like a solid little generator We purchased this after hurricane Sandy, there were substantial power outages in our area. I wanted a compact, lightweight generator that could power our refrigerator and freezer to keep food from spoiling (it could also power a sump pump). In an emergency, it may be used to power the home heater (although that's close to it's limit). I have a friend at work who has a larger Champion generator. They used it for many days during our power outages and had no problems with it. I know a smaller generator limits your power options, but I chose it because there's less gasoline to deal with, it's portable (I can lift it), and it's compact. It would be nice if it had just a little bit more power output, but everything in life is a compromise. I did test it by running it with a load of about 90% of it's rated current for about 15 minutes with no problems. It gives me another tool to handle an emergency, at least I won't be sitting around doing nothing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SMALL CAN BE GOOD! Other reviews attest to the good reliability, so I will describe my results with my 1400 / 1800 Champion generator today.  Bought it on sale this morning at 6:00 AM (black Friday sale, Nov. 29, 2013).  The regular price is good, but the sale price you can't turn down.  My brother went and he bought one as well.  I saw another one in someone else's cart while we were there.  I went right home and shortly proceeded to assemble the feet to it, put in oil and gas, and fired it up.  Started on 2nd pull with choke on and had to ease the choke open slowly but it smoothed out quickly.  After a few minutes warm-up I started a box fan, then a ceramic heater on 800 watt setting, and then went up to the 1200 watt setting.  The governor worked smoothly and the meter needle stayed in the black zone.  I then ran it about 2 hours with the heater on the 800 watt setting, and then shut it off and checked the oil, which was still full.  Ran it 2 hrs more, and at one point I plugged in an 1875 watt blow dryer just to see what would happen.  It actually ran it, although it was laboring pretty good, but I was amazed that it actually did power it until I turned off the blow dryer (about 15 seconds).  I would say that the little generator should do like a champ on a refrigerator and with a light bulb or two hooked up to it.  Then after the 4 hours of "run-in" time, I drained the oil, which was somewhat dirty looking after the 4 hours, put in new 10w-30, turned off the gas, started it on one pull (using the choke) and let it run the carburetor out of gas.  It took the remainder of  the 1.5 gallon gas can I had originally filled it with, to top it back off almost full again.  So I started with 1.5 gallons, filled it up, ran it slightly over 4 hours mostly under a fairly light or 50% load, and then put it away with the tank nearly full again, all from the same 1.5 gallon can.  I'd say that's pretty economical, and we will feel good knowing we have some redundancy to our generator backups.  This one ain't as good as the EU2000i but good grief, it'll run your refrigerator overnight when you lock up the high priced Honda for safekeeping.  More than once I've spent days at the time without power, and having a back-up plan is good.  Might need to help an un-prepared neighbor keep their freezer frozen sometime too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good deal, great price Bought on Black Friday, used at deer camp on four day weekend. Started first pull ran flawlessly entire time. Shopped long and hard for small 4 cycle generator, did not want to mess with 2 cycle. This generator is quiet, and seems to be pretty dependable so far. Only downfall is cheap fuel guage, cannot get accurate reading unless you tap on glass several times. Do it the old fashioned way open the cap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little generator Generator exceeded my expectations. When it says it will run 1400watts, it really means it!
