Duke is a yellow Labrador mix that was surrendered to a local animal shelter after, he and the rest of his litter, had been abandoned on the side of a West TN highway. He was suffering from severe malnutrition, dehydration and an injured leg.
After being nursed back to health, Duke was placed on Petfinder.com with the hope that he and his brothers and sisters would each find a loving home. Luckily, within several weeks of his posting, Duke was adopted out to a family who lived on a farm. With lots of space to run and play, it was a perfect fit for a puppy with lots of energy. Even though he's known to herd the chickens on occasion, he is gentle with all the animals on the farm, and has quickly become a part of the family.
Duke’s new family is very thankful for their new companion. He has an obvious appreciation for his new life, and has wrapped himself around their hearts. Life is happier, funnier, and generally better. It just goes to show that, with so many animals out there that need homes, given a little bit of time, you can indeed find the right fit for your family.
Along with Duke, the family has also adopted their local Tractor Supply store as their “go-to” pet supply store. It was their first stop after picking Duke up from the shelter, and they were able to get everything they needed in one place – a bed, collar and leash, food, treats, and even a new toy. And because leashed dogs are always welcome, he now tags along on every trip, knowing that when he walks in the door he is always greeted by name with a cookie and a handshake.
