Maintaining your engine is important to the life and performance of your equipment. Here are some easy steps to keep your engine in top shape. Follow the hourly or calendar intervals, whichever occurs first. More frequent service is required when operating in dirty or dusty conditions. For specific questions about your engine, refer to your owner’s manual, contact the manufacturer, or visit your local TSC store.

Basic Engine Care

Oil
  • Check oil level regularly: fill to mark on dipstick DO NOT OVERFILL
  • Use SAE 30 oil above 40°F (4°C)
  • Change oil after first 5 hours of use, then after every 50 hours or at the beginning of the season
AIR CLEANER
  • Replace air cleaners at least once a season with original parts, more often under dusty conditions
  • Always use air filters to assure optimum performance and maximum protection for your engine
GASOLINE
  • Use clean, fresh, unleaded gas, no E85
  • Do not mix oil with gas
  • Use fuel stabilizer to assure fuel freshness and easier starting
SPARK PLUG
  • Replace spark plug at the beginning of every mowing season and/or every 100 hours of use
  • Use manufacturer recommended spark plugs
STORAGE
  • Use fuel stabilizer to prevent stale gas over storage period
  • Drain engine oil and refill
  • Pour 1/2oz (14ml), oil into spark plug hole
  • Replace spark plug and crank engine slowly
  • Clean dirt and grass from engine and store in clean, dry area
