Catch and release traps
Date:April 10, 2012
These traps do what their intended to do. Yes they could use a bait door, and the trigger mechanism can be a bit touchy, but two for this price is a deal. To set the bait simply stand the trap up on end and drop in the bait, shake the bait on to the floor and set the trigger......and then be patient. I waited TWO weeks a woodchuck, but the greedy little bugger finally couldn't resist. I used a trail of veggies leading up to the trap and a pile on the other side of the trigger plate......kept tossing fresh bait in every couple of days. No animal that can fit in these traps is going to get out until you release them

flimsy cat trap
Date:October 13, 2011
The only good thing about this trap is the price. It's cheap. It's very flimsy so I don't expect it to last long. Raccoons will probably destroy it. The spring-loaded door mechanism is difficult to open. It isn't easy to use the little hook that holds the door open. It's also not very easy to set the trap door lever mechanism. I must reset it frequently because it closes for no apparent reason, maybe from the wind or ground vibrations.
It's intended purpose is to catch cats. After several days I've caught 3 squirrels, 1 raccoon, and 1 cat. So it works but I wouldn't recommend it except for very light occasional use.
I previously had a MSI Tru-Catch trap which TSC used to sell and it was far superior to this one. It lasted for 20 years. Unfortunately an irate neighbor finally took a baseball bat to it. When this cheap one breaks, I'll probably get another Tru-Catch. They're sold online although at 2x-3x the cost of this cheap one.

Design needs work
Date:July 14, 2011
Bought a set of 3 sizes of these from TSC about 4 years ago. While they do work, occasionally, there are just SO many times that the doors will not trip and the bait is gone. Another waste of bait, another waste of my time, and another day of problems caused by the errant animal. It's not so bad if this happens once or twice, but every day for over 2 weeks? The problem is the tripping mechanism is an extremely poor/cheap design. I've tried and tried to adjust/rebend/tweak, but the problem on at least one of them is the actual geometry of the design causes it to malfunction.
Today was an even more frustrating first. Found the medium size trap UPSIDE DOWN, no bait, and the door still set and NOT TRIPPED!
One other thing I do not like about them is the fact that the back of the trap does not open to put in the bait. Yes, I understand that is a cost consideration to be able to supply them at the low price. However, it is difficult to have to hold the trap door open with one hand and put the bait in. I've installed empty cat food cans in them, tied down, and put the bait under a string that holds the can in so that the animal is forced to tug at the bait to get it out, in an effort to get the animal to put more weight/force on the trigger plate, since the traps will not spring effectively. Even then, they still do not trip.
I cannot recommend these traps based on this, and am actively now looking for different traps that will not have this problem.

NOT GOOD FOR ARMADILLOS
Date:June 30, 2011
Have 2 armadillos tearing up my foundation and making my dogs go crazy. Didnt want to shoot them so we bought this trap and after 3 days we finally caught one of them. Bad thing is it completely destroyed the trap and escaped. the trap is beyond repair.
