CountyLine subsoil plow
Date:January 15, 2012
Purchased one yesterday to break up soil our guest horses had left packed and bereft of grass in our pasture. So far has worked better than expected.
Was a bit hesitant about this purchase because TSC carries a generally consumer grade line of 3 point hitch accessories. (A blessing to have in our Country a range of consumer, commercial, and industrial grade products, and vendors that serve every market.)
I have seen some reports on the web of bent and broken subsoil plows from TSC. Looking at the posters, these seem to be from folks using tractors with Class 2 hitch.
This tool seems well matched to my 34hp tractor, which is, I believe, about the top of the Class 1 hitch range. Working ordinary dirt at full depth, I doubt I could get up enough speed such that if hitting a solid obstruction the inertia of the tractor would bend or break the plow.
I do notice also that the design of the CountyLine subsoil plow I bought from TSC is different both from the one shown in their web catalog (as of this writing) and the ones I have seen pictures of damaged. The top link attach point of this one is formed from two plates about 3/8 thick x 5 inches high welded to the sides of the main vertical post, and having a horizontal bolt through a hole just below the toplink pin hole.
I am quite pleased with this product and believe it will do good service on tractors with a Class 1 hitch.

Does the job!
Date:November 19, 2011
Used to dig a trench to bury electrical wiring and conduit for the power to my workshop. Hooked it up, and within, oh 10-15 mins, was done with a good 50 ft trench.
It digs a good, deep trench and doesn't rip the lawn up really bad. Put the conduit down, stepped the sod back down, and rolled it with the lawn roller, and you couldn't even tell that I'd done anything.
The only issue that I ran into was that when I hooked it up to my JD 850 with MFWD, the blade is only about 1/4 inch off the ground with the 3 pt all the way up. However; I discovered that if you pull the top pin and drop the hitch a bit, you can spin it 90 degrees, then put the hitch back up and it will stay in place and a good foot off the ground. I'm sure JD makes one of these that fits my tractor better, but I'm sure it's at least 5 times as expensive.
If you break this, it's your own fault. First gear low, and you'll do just fine.

There are some reviews here as to the durability of this product that I have to disagree with.
Chances are if you break off the arm or bend it all the way back from a root then you are traveling too fast. 1st gear, low range and at an idle is the best method.
Also, don't try to take the full depth on the first pass. After you have made one run through most 3-point hitches have enough "sway" to keep the cutter in the trench even if you you aren't dead-on with your steering.
After you have made your first pass if possible flood the trench with water and let it soak for a little while and the next pass will go much easier.
If you encounter a tree root too big for the implement to pull through, stop, lift out and keep a hatchet with you and chop it out.
I used this to run 400' of waterline and approx. 1000' of various types of wire/cable and my property is very wooded.
Even going slowly I saved a lot of time and back-breaking labor with this inexpesive attachment.
The key is you have to go slow or you might not get ten feet with it and then you aren't getting anything accomplished, fast or slow.
Filtering is in progress. Please wait until it completes.
